NTs – Scriptie Prijs 2025

Er is veel jong talent in Nederland. Talent dat de Nederlandse Tuinenstichting (NTs) graag betrekt bij haar missie om waardevol groen erfgoed te behouden. Daarom hebben we een tweejaarlijkse prijs in het leven geroepen voor de beste afstudeerscriptie of het beste afstudeerontwerp waarin dat groene erfgoed een belangrijke rol speelt. Zowel universitaire als hbo-studenten kunnen meedingen naar de prijs, die we in 2025 voor de tweede keer uitreiken.

De prijs bestaat uit een geldbedrag van € 1.500,- en een interview in het Tuinjournaal, het vriendenmagazine van de NTs.

Beoordeling

Een deskundige jury beoordeelt de inzendingen aan de hand van enkele selectiecriteria, waaronder inhoud en originaliteit, praktische toepasbaarheid, betekenis voor het werkterrein van het groene erfgoed, relatie met de NTs, argumentatie en toegankelijkheid, en verhouding tussen (ondersteunend) beeld en geschreven woord. Deze jury bestaat in 2025 uit:

• Johan Carel Bierens de Haan: o.a. voorzitter van Tuinhistorisch Genootschap Cascade;
• Joost Emmerik: tuin- en landschapsarchitect en hoofd van de masteropleiding Landschapsarchitectuur aan de Academie van Bouwkunst Amsterdam;
• Heilien Tonckens: groenontwerper, tuin- en landschapsadviseur;
• Anne Wolff: docent Tuingeschiedenis en ontworpen Landschapsgeschiedenis en projectleider Kenniscentrum Landschap (RUG);
• Willemijn ter Hart, de winnares van de vorige editie van de NTs scriptieprijs.

Om voor de prijs in aanmerking te kunnen komen, moet je zijn afgestudeerd aan een Nederlandse universiteit of hbo-opleiding. Daarnaast moet de scriptie of het ontwerp in het Nederlands of Engels zijn geschreven en een samenvatting hebben van maximaal 1.500 woorden. Bij je inzending schrijf je bovendien een brief waarin je motiveert waarom de scriptie van belang is voor het werkterrein van de NTs.

Thema: groen erfgoed

Uiteraard moeten de inzendingen ook voldoen aan het thema ‘groen erfgoed’. Dat betekent dat de scriptie gaat over tuinen, parken, openbare groenvoorzieningen en cultuurlandschappen die van cultuurhistorische waarde en van maatschappelijke betekenis zijn door bijvoorbeeld hun architectuur, vormgeving, inrichting of beplanting, hun ligging of ensemblewaarde in samenhang met gebouwde of andere objecten, dan wel over de ontwerpers of beheerders daarvan.

Lever dan je scriptie of ontwerp uiterlijk 1 oktober 2025 digitaal in bij het bureau van de NTs (info@tuinenstichting.nl). De prijsuitreiking vindt plaats in november 2025.

The NTs – Thesis Prize 2025

There is a lot of young talent in the Netherlands. Talent that the Nederlandse Tuinenstichting (“NTs”) (“Netherlands Garden Foundation”) would like to involve in its mission to preserve our valuable green heritage. That is why we have created a biennial prize for the best Master’s thesis or Master’s design in which our green heritage plays a major role. Both students from an academic university (WO) or university of applied sciences (HBO) can compete for the prize, which will be awarded for the second time in 2025.

The prize is an award of € 1,500 and an interview in the ‘Tuinjournaal’, the magazine of the Foundation.

Judging

The applications will be judged by a jury of experts who will base their selection on content and originality, practical application, relevance for the preservation of green heritage, relationship to the activities of the NTs, argumentation and accessibility, and the relationship between the written words and (supportive) images. The jury members are:

• Johan Carel Bierens de Haan: chairman of the Historical Garden Society “Cascade”;
• Joost Emmerik: garden and landscape designer and head of the Master’s programme Landscape Architecture at the Amsterdam Academy of Architecture;
• Heilien Tonckens: green designer, garden and landscape advisor;
• Anne Wolff: docent of Garden History and designed Landscape History and Project Coordinator Landscape Knowledge Center (“Kenniscentrum Landschap”) at the University of Groningen;
• Willemijn ter Hart, the winner of the previous edition of the NTs thesis prize.

To be eligible for the prize, you must have graduated from a Dutch academic university (WO) or university of applied sciences (HBO). Your thesis must have been written in Dutch or English and contain a summary of no more than 1,500 words. Furthermore, your application should contain a letter of motivation explaining why your thesis or design is of importance to the field of activity of the NTs.

Theme: our green heritage

It goes without saying that the applications must satisfy the “green heritage” theme. That means that the thesis is about gardens, parks, public green spaces, and landscapes that are of cultural value and of social significance, for example because of their architecture, form, design, or planting, their location or ensemble value in relation to buildings or other objects, or their designers or administrators.

Registration for the second NTs-thesis prize: deadline is 1 October 2025
