REGLEMENT NTs-SCRIPTIEPRIJS 2025

Criteria en Procedure

• Je bent in 2023, 2024 of 2025 afgestudeerd op een scriptie of een ontwerp aan een Nederlandse universiteit of hbo-opleiding;
• De afstudeerscriptie of het afstudeerontwerp is geschreven in het Nederlands of Engels;
• Je scriptie of ontwerp is geschreven rond of gericht op het thema ‘groen erfgoed’. Dat betekent dat deze zich richt op tuinen, parken, openbare groenvoorzieningen en cultuurlandschappen die van cultuurhistorische waarde en van maatschappelijke betekenis zijn door bijvoorbeeld hun architectuur, vormgeving, inrichting of beplanting, hun ligging of ensemblewaarde in samenhang met gebouwde of andere objecten, dan wel over de ontwerpers of beheerders daarvan. De voor de eerste NTs-scriptieprijs genomineerde werkstukken gingen bijvoorbeeld over een analyse van en ontwerpoplossing voor een begraafplaats, een ontwerpstudie naar het behoud van een veengebied bij Sint Petersburg (Rusland), een cultuurhistorische studie over het fenomeen van de Japanse tuin in het Westen en een interdisciplinair onderzoek naar het landgoed als voedselplek en broedplaats van innovatieve tuinbouw. • Je stuurt de scriptie voor 1 oktober 2025 in pdf-format per mail naar het bureau van de Nederlandse Tuinenstichting (info@tuinenstichting.nl). In de mail:
• Vermeld je de titel van de scriptie of van het ontwerp, de universiteit of hogeschool waar je bent afgestudeerd, de studierichting die je hebt gevolgd, en de datum waarop je bent afgestudeerd (inclusief een scan van het schriftelijk bewijs waaruit je afstuderen blijkt);
• Voeg je een samenvatting van je scriptie of korte beschrijving van/toelichting bij je ontwerp toe van maximaal 1.500 woorden inclusief maximaal 1 tekening indien het een ontwerp betreft. Deze samenvatting is in het Nederlands of Engels geschreven en behandelt de volgende onderwerpen: aanleiding voor je onderzoek of ontwerp, vraagstelling of ontwerpopdracht, onderzoeksmethode en belangrijkste conclusies c.q. essenties van het ontwerp. Samenvattingen die langer zijn, worden niet in behandeling genomen;
• Motiveer je waarom jouw scriptie of ontwerp van belang is voor het werkterrein van de NTs;
• Voeg je je cv toe;
• Nadat we je inzending hebben ontvangen, krijg je een ontvangstbevestiging;
• In november 2025 maken jury en NTs de winnaar bekend.

Beoordeling van de scripties

Een selectiecommissie van de NTs doet een eerste selectie aan de hand van de prijsvraagvoorwaarden. Indien een inzending hier niet aan voldoet, dingt deze niet meer mee. De (geselecteerde) scripties en ontwerpen worden vervolgens aan de jury voorgelegd. De jury kiest de uiteindelijke prijswinnaar, en motiveert haar keuze schriftelijk. Mogelijk houdt zij met de top 3 of 4 van de kandidaten ook een gesprek rond het centrale idee van de scriptie c.q. ontwerp.
Over de uitslag vindt geen discussie plaats. De jury heeft het recht om bij onvoldoende niveau van de inzendingen geen prijswinnaar aan te wijzen.

De jury bestaat dit jaar uit:

• Johan Carel Bierens de Haan: o.a. voorzitter van Tuinhistorisch Genootschap Cascade;
• Joost Emmerik: tuin- en landschapsarchitect en hoofd van de masteropleiding Landschapsarchitectuur aan de Academie van Bouwkunst Amsterdam;
• Heilien Tonckens: groenontwerper, tuin- en landschapsadviseur;
• Anne Wolff: docent Tuingeschiedenis en ontworpen Landschapsgeschiedenis en projectleider Kenniscentrum Landschap (RUG);
• Willemijn ter Hart, de winnares van de vorige editie van de NTs scriptieprijs

Prijs

De prijs bestaat uit een vrij te besteden geldbedrag van € 1.500,-. De winnaar wordt bovendien geïnterviewd voor het Tuinjournaal (het vriendenmagazine van de NTs dat driemaal per jaar verschijnt).

Overige spelregels

Deelnemers worden geacht op de hoogte te zijn van dit reglement en met de inhoud ervan akkoord te gaan.
In alle gevallen waarin dit reglement niet voorziet, beslist de jury, in samenspraak met het bestuur van de NTs.

REGULATIONS NTs-THESIS PRIZE 2025

Criteria and Procedure

• You graduated in 2023, 2024, or 2025 with a Master’s thesis or a Master of design from a Dutch academic university (WO) or university of applied sciences (HBO);
• Your thesis/graduation design is written in Dutch or English;
• Your thesis/design is written on or addresses the theme of ‘green heritage’. That means that your thesis is about gardens, parks, public green spaces, and cultural landscapes that are of cultural-historical value or of social significance due to, for example, their architecture, form, design or planting, their location or ensemble value in relation to buildings or other objects, or their designers or administrators. To give an impression: the theses/designs that were nominated for the first NTs-Thesis prize were an analysis of and design solution for a cemetery, a draft study for the preservation of peatlands near St Petersburg (Russia), a cultural-historical study of the phenomenon of Japanese gardens in the West, and an interdisciplinary study on the possibilities for an estate to function as ‘sitopia’ and incubator for innovative agriculture. • Send your thesis or design in pdf. format to the bureau of the Nederlandse Tuinenstichting (info@tuinenstichting.nl) by 1 October 2025 at the latest. In your email:
• Mention the title of the thesis or the design, the academic university or university of applied sciences from which you graduated, your field of study, and the date you graduated (including a scan of written proof of your graduation);
• Submit a summary of your thesis or a short description/explanation of your design of 1,500 words or less (including a maximum of one drawing in the case of a design). The summary is written in Dutch or English and deals with the following topics: the motivation for your research or design, the question or issue to be examined, the research methods, and the most important conclusions or essentials of the design. Summaries that are longer than 1,500 words will be rejected;
• Explain why your thesis/design is of relevance to the activities of the NTs and include your curriculum vitae;
• After we have received your submission, you will receive a confirmation notice;
• The winner will be announced in November 2025 by the jury and the NTs.

Judging of the theses

A selection committee of the NTs will make a first screening based on the prize criteria. Submissions that do not meet these criteria will not be considered. The (selected) theses and designs will then be presented to the jury.

The jury selects the ultimate winner and motivates its choice in writing. The jury might also decide to interview the top 3 or 4 of the candidates on the central theme of the thesis/design.

The results are final and are not subject to correspondence or appeal. The jury reserves the right not to award the prize in case the submissions do not meet the standard of qualifications.

The jury members are:

• Johan Carel Bierens de Haan, Chairman of the Historical Garden Society “Cascade”;
• Joost Emmerik: garden and landscape architect and head of the Master’s programme Landscape Architecture at the Amsterdam Academy of Architecture;
• Heilien Tonckens: designer of gardens and landscape advisor;
• Anne Wolff, docent Garden History and designed Landscape History and Project Coordinator of “Kenniscentrum Landschap” at the University of Groningen;
• Willemijn ter Hart, the winner of the previous edition of the NTs thesis prize.

Prize 

The prize consists of an amount of € 1,500. The winner will also be interviewed by the ‘Tuinjournaal’ (the magazine of the NTs that is published three times a year).

Other Rules

Participants are expected to have knowledge of these regulations and are assumed to agree with its contents. In all cases not foreseen by these regulations, the jury decides, in consultation with the board of the NTs.
